Stay Ready So You Don’t Have to Get Ready: A Rant for the Unprepared

I need to say this with my chest: Why the hell are people so unprepared? And no, I’m not talking about life blindsiding you with some real shit—I’m talking about the basic everyday stuff that should be second nature by now.
Like, why are you at the front of the line and just now remembering you have to pay? Why are you fumbling through your bag like a confused raccoon, holding up the entire damn universe? The menu was right there the whole time, but now that it’s your turn, you suddenly need a deep spiritual connection with the options? MOVE.
Or how about when people seek help but have no actual idea what they need? You got on the phone, walked up to the counter, slid into someone’s DMs—but you didn’t take two seconds to form a single coherent thought? You expect the person helping you to just decode your scattered-ass brain waves? No. Stop. Try again.
And let’s talk about staying ready in all facets of life. Your kids? You know damn well your child is a little asshole just like you, so with that knowledge, why would you not be prepared? No, we can’t predict everything, but we sure as hell can anticipate. If you know your kid throws tantrums, don’t show up somewhere without a plan. If you know your friend is always late, tell them to meet 30 minutes earlier than needed. If you know your partner forgets things, send them a reminder. USE YOUR BRAIN.
And for the love of all things decent, if you’re visiting another state, province, country—do some damn research. You have a whole phone. Most of y’all have internet access. And even if you don’t, public libraries, Kinko’s, UPS stores—hell, somebody has WiFi. Google exists. Use it. Nothing is more frustrating than watching someone walk into a store and ask, "Do you carry ___?" when it takes five seconds to check online first. DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE. Stop making everyone else compensate for your laziness.
This world is crawling with people who act like they’re the only ones here. Newsflash: you’re not special. Your time is not more valuable than anyone else’s. Your lack of preparation shouldn’t become everyone else’s burden.
And before you say it—yes, even I slip up sometimes. But at least I have the self-awareness to feel bad about it. Some of y’all? Moving through life like chaotic NPCs, making the rest of us suffer through your poor choices.
Being prepared is the damn bare minimum. Have a plan. Have your shit together. Be ready to move when it’s time to move. Because honestly? The rest of us are sick of waiting on you.
Stay ready. Stay aware. Stay the hell out of the way.
